With its eye-catching polka dot leaves the Begonia Maculata is a show-stopping plant that is sure to be a glorious addition to any home. Not only does it have green and silver spots on top, the underside of the leaves are an unusual deep red, making it a riot of contrasting colour. If you care for your Begonia correctly it will produce a cluster of delicate white flowers. For all that it gives the Begonia Maculata is relatively easy to look after as long as you follow our care instructions and give it some regular attention.

The height from the base of the pot to the top of the plant size 25cm to 35cm. The nursery pot diameter is 11cm.

All plants come in their nursery pots, ceramic pots are sold separately.

Facts about your Begonia Maculata

The Begonia Maculata is part of the Begoniaceae family, which means it is a relative of Melons, Pumpkins and Cucumbers. The Begonia Maculata originates from Southern and Central America and grows in tropical climates. The seeds are some of the smallest in the plant world and look like dust. In the past Begonias were used to polish swords and the word Begonia means ‘be cautious’ in the plant dictionary!

Caring for your Begonia Maculata

Light - Your Begonia Maculata likes bright but indirect sunlight and can survive in low light conditions. Too much strong light will burn its leaves. The perfect spot gets some sun and some shade.

Water -Let the top inch or so of soil become dry between waterings, this will mean watering about once a week, depending on the season and position of your plant. Your Begonia doesn’t like to be dry for too long in summer.

Top Tip - If you want your Begonia to be bushier rather than tall, pinch out the new growth in mid summer.

All our plants come with a care card, you can also see more information about how to look after your plant and our handy infographic care guides on our plant care page.

Our Green Packaging.

When you buy a plant from Canopy Plants you can be sure we have done our very best to keep your purchase green. Our packaging is sustainably sourced and 100% recyclable or compostable.

All our paper and card is recycled and sustainably sourced.

It wouldn’t be right to be cutting down trees to sell plants!

We don’t use any single use plastic.

When we send your plant to you the pot and roots will be wrapped in a bag that looks like plastic - it is actually a totally compostable potato starch bag! You can put it in your council compost bin. They are also suitable for home composting.

For fragile items we use potato starch protective peanuts, just wash them down the sink!

Peat free.

We only use peat free compost at our studio. 60% to 70% of our plants are grown in peat free compost. We are pushing to get that to 100% as soon as we can.

Our future totally plastic free.

Our dream is to run a 100% plastic free business, but this is hard because all of our suppliers use plastic pots. We are working on a ‘Pass on Plastic’ scheme where we give you the option to make your order completely plastic free and we return the plastic pots to our suppliers.
